先來看看ETS官方對于GRE考試中語文數學部分的評分是如何進行的：
The Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning measures are section-level adaptive. This means the computer selects the second operational section of a measure based on your performance on the first section. Within each section, all questions contribute equally to the final score.The raw score is converted to a scaled score through a process known as equating. The equating process accounts for minor variations in difficulty among the different test editions as well as the differences in difficulty introduced by the section-level adaptation. Thus a given scaled score for a particular measure reflects the same level of performance regardless of which second section was selected and when the test was taken.
上述這段內容引用自ETS官網的GRE頻道。通過這段內容介紹要為考生糾正的一個認識是，GRE考試的語文和數學部分并非1道題目1分。雖然考試題目數量和分數區間正好對應，分別是40題和40分，但這并不代表這每道題目就是1分。實際上GRE考試的語文和數學分成2個SECTION(有加試的部分還會多一個SECTION)，而第二個SECTION的難度是會根據第一個SECTION考生的解題情況來進行調整的，也就是所謂的section-level adaptive。考生如果第一個SECTION表現較好正確率高，那么第二個SECTION的難度就會上升，當然大家的得分也會會因此提高，或者說進入高分區。之后哪怕在第二個SECTION中錯題數量較多，得分方面仍然會有一定優勢。
